4 Pro Tips For Setting Up A Great Hunting Expedition Camp

Whether you are planning an expedition, hunting elk in the Rocky Mountains or white-tail deer in the wildlands of Virginia setting up camp is one important step that can not be overlooked. The relationship between having an ideal hunting camp and the success of a hunt can’t be underestimated. Setting up an ill-equipped and poorly organized hunting camp can exaggerate even minor inconveniences of being away from the comfort of your home.

Below are a few tips to help you set up a great hunting camp.

1. Choosing a site

*Safety should be your first consideration when choosing a site to set up your camp. The further away you are from civilization the higher the risk of something happening to you. Keep this in mind when choosing your site and take into consideration the animals that may live in the forest around you.

*Your site location should not be too close to game trails. This prevents the risk of having a wild animal wander into your site and also lessens the possibility of scaring away the exact thing you may be hunting.

*Avoid setting up under things that can fall at any moment. This includes dead tree branches or rocks.

*Consider terrain. You might set up camp under clear skies only to wake up in a flooded depression. Choose a location that is fairly level to avoid being in such a situation.

2. Proximity

Setting up a campsite for the fun of it is very different from setting up a hunting camp. When setting up a camp just for fun you will want to be near great scenery for great photos, this is just not a priority when setting up a hunting camp.

*You will need to be close to fresh water for drinking which is important for survival.

*Find an area that increases your chances of a successful hunt. You do not want to set up camp that is too close or too visible to where you plan on doing the actual hunt as this could spook the game out of the area.

*That being said, you also want to set up in an area that is close enough so that you can be in your hunting position without wasting too much time. Remember, if you do take something down, you will have to haul it back to camp.

3. Storage space

It is close to impossible to carry all your belongings every day when you go hunting. It is therefore vital that you have enough storage space for your extra gear as well as your food.

*First, you will need to separate the cooking area and the sleeping area. You should not take food into the sleeping area. This will reduce the risk of animals getting close to you when you are sleeping if they happen to wander into camp.

*Ensure all food and meat is hang in bags at least three meters from the ground and a few meters from the sleeping tents. Hang any game you gave scored off the ground and away from the camp area.

4. Keep the camp area clean

*The first thing you should consider is setting up a toilet. It should be away from the living area and away from the water source. If you plan to stay in the camp for long, dig a deep trench that can accommodate all human waste. When you leave the site make sure you bury all human waste.

*Do not leave your garbage lying around. Make sure you burn all your waste or carry it back home for proper disposal.

*Clean up your campsite and the area around it before you go. Leave it cleaner than when you got there. Keeping the forest around you clean ensures happy hunters, campers, and animals for years to come.

Now with these tips, you are ready to go on a whitetail hunt.

Potential Hazards And Safety Tips When Using Excavators

Potential Hazards And Safety Tips When Using Excavators

Using such heavy machinery as excavators can be dangerous. The bucket could fall off injuring someone. The excavator could trip over and crash. Or even the swinging arm of the machine could hit somebody.

This raises the safety concern. How safe is it to work with excavators? Well, while excavators cannot be done away with, safety measures can put in place to reduce the chances of accidents occurring. And should an accident happen then there should be appropriate safety procedure to contain it and prevent further damage.

We will highlight potential hazards, the possible triggers of accidents and explore measures to mitigate them. Then we shall see how to respond when an accident does happen.

Potential Hazards and Mitigation Measures.

  • Hazards related to Personnel operating the excavator.

Excavators are very technical machines requiring specialized knowledge and expertise to operate. In the hands of an incompetent person things could easily go out of hand. The solution is simply letting the experts do the work.

The operators should periodically undergo refresher safety training so that they are prepared for any eventuality. Failure to do so is hazardous.

The operators must strictly follow the manufacturer’s instruction and don’t override any without consulting the supervisor. Only recommended components like buckets should be used. Weight must be taken into account. Overloading could make it topple.

  • Hazards related to the working area.

Scope the surrounding for any potential hazards. Are there any overhead or underground water or power lines in the area? If there are, how far from the site are they? Get this clear to avoid damages and prevent hazards.

How is the terrain vis-a-vis the manufacturer’s recommendation?

The importance of factoring in these issues well before beginning the work is that you preempt any dangerous situations and come up with measures that will enable you go about the work safely.

The working site must also have appropriate warning signage and barricades to keep off unauthorized persons.

  • Hazards that relate to other people in the site.

There is a grave danger in people approaching the excavator while in operation. The operator incognizant of the person may unintentionally injure them.

Should there be need to approach the working radius of the machine, communication should be made to the operator. And only advance when the operator grants such permission.

Let other site workers be made aware of the excavator’s mode of operation so that they keep out of harm’s way.  They will get to avoid blind spots and the swing arears of the excavator.

At no time should anyone be beneath the excavator with loads hanging over them.

  • Hazards related to the excavator.

You will agree with me other safety measures would be useless if the machine itself is not in good condition. This calls for frequent servicing maintenance to ensure it is good, working-worthy condition.

Its controls should be checked against a checklist and only allowed to begin work when confirmed to be in good condition. The safety measures also must confirmed to be in place.

For excavators that use tyres, the tyres must be in good condition and properly inflated for this has an impact in the overall stability of the excavator.

Responding To An Accident.

While measures are put in place to prevent accidents, from time to time accidents do occur. When an accident happens, first raise an alarm and call for help. Then assess the safety of the accident scene. If it is safe proceed and administer first aid as wait for professional help.

Causes and Symptoms of Hepatitis, Hormonal imbalance, Malaria

World Hepatitis Day: July 28th

July 28 is celebrated as world hepatitis day. Millions of people across the world are suffering from this disease and is counted as one of the most deadly disease.

It is caused by a virus called hepatitis virus. In this disease the inflammation of liver takes place. The liver also contains inflammatory cells. There are many types of hepatitis found all over the world, which includes hepatitis A, hepatitis B, hepatitis C. Hepatitis B and hepatitis C are more common and causes death. According to a recent survey, about 3% of the whole world population is affected by hepatitis B and about 1.5% of world population is affected by hepatitis C.

Drugs and other such products may also enhance the chance of hepatitis infection. It is also a widely spreading disease and can be transmitted by coming in blood contact with the infected person, by needles used by the patient, drug abuses, heamodialysis.

The proper treatment should be provided to the patient. Many vaccines are available in the market for hepatitis A and hepatitis B but treatment of hepatitis C is still a problem. Vaccines are provided to children right after their birth which proves to be major prevention.

Hormonal imbalance in women

Polycystic Ovarian Disease (PCOD) or Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome (PCOS) is one of the most common diseases found in women. This is the condition in which there is formation of multiple tiny cysts, which develop at the periphery of the ovary.

It occurs in women aging between 14 to 50 years of age. The exact cause of this disease is not known but according to doctors and researchers, two main causes may be the insulin insensitivity and the influence of excessive male hormone in female. It may be genetically affected. Beside all these reasons, lifestyle plays a major role in occurrence of this disease as due to our changing lifestyle we are not to proper attention to ourselves. Under these conditions, gain of weight, may be the cause of it.

It may result in infertility.

This hormonal imbalance can be cured by changing living habits. Losing weight also gives a positive sign for betterment. At most regular exercise along with a healthy diet will surely never lead you such a disease.

Our biggest enemies: Mosquitoes

Mosquitoes are one of the major cause for various diseases all over the world as malaria, dengue. These diseases are really dreadful and may cause the patient to lose his/her life. But, if we are little alert and we pay attention, the growth and reproduction of mosquitoes can be avoided. For this, only few of the steps have to be followed.

You should not allow the accumulation of water. It is one of the biggest sources of mosquitoes as it is their primary home where they live and thrive. They lay their eggs only on the surface of stagnant water, so that larvae can develop. So, water accumulation should be avoided and even if it done it should be covered.

There are places where water is stored at large volume and can’t be always drawn out and cleaned. The best remedy to prevent growth at such places is just the addition of two spoonful petrol or kerosene for every 100 liter of water. The scientific reason behind this is that as the petrol/kerosene is lighter than water, they come over the surface of the water and spread over that. This covers the place for the growth of mosquitoes.

Besides, the surroundings must be kept clean to live healthy.
