5 Best Things About Living In Texas: 2nd Largest State In US

5 Best Things About Living In Texas: 2nd Largest State In US

Other than being the second largest state in the US, what else comes to your mind when someone mentions Texas? It draws quite a number of new residents each year due to its diversity, fast growth, warm weather, and much more. Still not convinced?

Well, some of the things that can make the Lone Star State stand out for you might include:

1) Lower Costs of Living

The cost of living in Texas is relatively lower than the US average, with Houston being the region’s cheapest. Things such as consumer goods, transport, and utilities are critical to the middle-class population. Most importantly, the land is cheaper and the process of acquiring a piece is also efficient. The state worked so hard to keep the housing sector from the housing market crash. In addition, Texas has low taxes and quite a number of tax incentives for businesses, plus, the residents here don’t pay personal state income tax.

2) Delicious Food

Texas is known to have invented barbeque, and its residents adore a good barbeque and Tex-Mex food. Some of the best BBQs you need to visit include Pecan Lodge, Louie Mueller Barbecue, Snow’s BBQ, Franklin Barbecue, Tyler’s Barbecue, and much more. There is no chili that compares to the spicy Texas chili, and chips and queso have become everyone’s favorite appetizers. Sparkling wines and beers that are made in Texas grace several occasions and restaurants throughout the state.

3) Jobs

Texas has experienced growth in the job market, especially with the rise of the oil and gas industry. Growth has also been experienced in the business services, tech, and manufacturing sectors. The state offers several white collar jobs for graduates and a wide variety of high-wage blue collar jobs. If you are looking for high-wage jobs, then you should probably not settle in New York, Seattle, and San Francisco. Since 2009, Texas has contributed 40 percent of all new jobs in the US.

4) Natural Beauty and Warm Weather

Texas is full of natural beauty and wonders. Some of the sites to visit include the Palo Duro Canyon, the 6th Street, Big Thicket National Preserve, Doug Sahm Hill, and much more. If you want a less conservative environment, Austin would be a perfect choice. The Austin City Limits keeps the city cool, entertaining, and weird, and that’s why the residents love the city. Many small communities within larger communities have everything to satisfy your work, play, and life needs, including luxury and sustainable homes, versatile corporate offices, wide-open green spaces, specialty retails, and much more.

5) Top Notch Sports Teams

Top Notch Sports Teams in Texas

Do you love sports? Texas is a home to many sports league franchises such as the Houston Texans for football, Houston Rockets, the Texas Rangers, Dallas Stars for hockey, the Dallas Cowboys for football, the A&M Aggies, several high school squads, and so on. It also hosts the largest and most popular rodeo shows in the world.   Texas has a strong higher education system, is family friendly, and has fewer rules. All these features attract new arrivals every single day while the current residents can’t get enough of what the state has to offer, so they stick around for quite a while.

7 Tips To Hire A Professional Portrait Wedding Photographer

Nothing captures the memories of your wedding better that good photos. Long after the flowers have dried up, the cake eaten and the esteemed visitors have left, your album preserves the memories. Hence the need to invest in good wedding photography.

The difference between a photo you stare at for minutes and one you don’t want to give a second look is the person behind the camera. For the special occasion your wedding is, you need to ensure that person is a professional wedding photographer, not an amateur.

This is how you will know you are dealing with a professional photographer:

1. They have been in the trade for a while.

Professionalism comes with experience. Experience comes as a result of doing something over and over again until you are proficient in it. To get the necessary experience, the photographer must have been operating for sometime.

Longevity of operation gives you the assurance they can handle your wedding, since they have successfully done it in the past in different circumstances in the various weddings.

Anything above a year in wedding photography is satisfactory. If you want, you may work with a photographer with a lesser time under their sleeves but trade very carefully.

2. In it fulltime.

To many people, photography is a hobby. Something they do as a side hustle to complement their primary job. Not bad in any way, some do it perfectly right. The only problem is that most part-timers take it lightly, after all they have little to lose if anything goes wrong.

However, most professional photographers are into photography fulltime. That’s what they have been trained for and do if for a living. You can be sure they take it very seriously, and would not entertain any mistakes.

You are better off working with a professional photographer who is doing it fulltime.

3. Have proof of competence.

Having photographed in different events over time, professional photographers have amassed rich collection of photos. These photos are stored in albums available online (on the websites) or when you visit their premises.

Every professional photographer has album upon album, which they freely present as selling points to their prospective clients.

When you meet a photographer with but few photos mainly taken in one event know you are dealing with an amateur.

4. They have specialized in few fields.

Generally, professionalism comes specialization.

While many photographers are jacks of all trade, professional photographers seem to specialize in a few areas. If you are lucky to find one who has specialized in weddings you will be in for a great treat.

5. Have developed distinct styles.

A professional will confidently and clearly elaborate what they do, so with professional photographers. They are sure of their styles and tastes. In addition to their own styles, they are well versed with other current styles and trends in the photography industry. They are also so sure about how they go about their wedding photography work.

When you sense such command know you are dealing with a professional photographer, if possible strike a deal.

6. Thorough and gets to the details.

A professional photographer will carefully listen to you and understand what you want. Then they will advise on how you can improve on your proposal so that it would even be better.

Moreover, they ask the right questions. Questions like your expectations, the type of visitors, the program, and a liaison who will help identify family members so that all are photographed.

7. They have a contract.

Important too, you know you are with a professional photographer when they have a contract. Beyond the verbal agreement, a written agreement seals the deal.

Avoid a photographer who lacks the qualities listed above. More often than not they will be an amateur.

Ruffed Grouse Shooting – Tips From A Professional Hunter

November 14, 2017 by Anthony Carter Leave a Comment

Ruffed Grouse Shooting - Tips From A Professional Hunter

Ruffed grouse give even experienced hunters and fine wingshots all the challenge they want when it comes to putting birds in the bag. I’ll tell you my stats just to give you an idea of what to expect. During the early weeks of the season, when foliage is still summer-thick, I catch a glimpse of about half the birds that flush. I manage to connect on about one out of every four attempts. When the leaves come down, unless a bird flushes wild, I catch a glimpse of nearly every bird and connect on about half of them. Hopefully, your numbers will be better than mine.

I’ve been out hunting a number of times with friends who have been much more familiar with hunting other upland game birds–pheasants, sharptailed grouse, prairie chickens, partridges, etc. No matter how much I warn them beforehand, their initial exasperating remark is something like, “How the devil are you supposed to kill a bird you hardly ever see?”

And hidden in that question is the key to connecting on ruffed grouse: Expect only a glimpse. If you happen to catch a full view of the bird as it zips across an opening or zooms across a logging trail, consider that a bonus. To connect on grouse, you shoot where they aren’t yet, not where they were.

Now, please don’t misunderstand. I would never condone shooting at sound only. But if you want to hit grouse with anything even approaching consistency, you will want to be mounting your shotgun or your hunting crossbow at the sound of every flush. If you wait until you see the bird, it is very often going to be too late. Most of the time all you are going to get are fleeting glimpses. Your goal is to put a swarm of 7-1/2 out in front of that glimpse. Ignore the trees, leaves, vines and brush. You only need a couple of pellets on target.

Hunting With a Dog

Hunting with a good dog will not only help you locate more grouse, but give you an edge when it comes to hitting grouse as well. The dog, whether pointer or flusher, will let you know when there is a grouse in the area. This will allow you to anticipate the flush. That may not sound like much of an edge, but trust me, that advance notice is huge.

Ruffed Grouse Hunting With A Dog

If you hunt without a dog, get in the habit of playing the old stop-and-go game. When you are in good cover, stop every 15 to 20 steps and stand still for 10 seconds or so. Often, a bird that would’ve let you walk on by had you proceeded with a steady gait, becomes unnerved at the sudden silence and flushes.

And speaking of unnerved, if that blast of whirring grouse wings does not do something wonderful to your nervous system, well, beats me why you’re hunting in the first place!

I hope my tips will help you better your ruffed grouse hunting skills and this season will be the best one for you. Good luck!

Positive Thinking: An important key to success

Positive Thinking An important key to success

A normal human being lives about 60-70 years and during these years, he faces a lot of things may be good or may be bad, because every day is not the same. Sometimes things may be according to him, as he wishes but at the same time, the things may go wrong unexpectedly. These things tests a man his thinking and approach towards happy life.

Positive thinking is very important to be successful in life. Not only in professional career but also in personal life. If things go wrong, rather than thinking on various aspects of negative points, one should neglect those things and try to avoid them. At the same time, try to extract out the hidden positives from the negative one because everything has both of the aspects. So it depends on us how we take the solution, which may worsen the situation or is for the betterment of it.

Always remember before taking any decision

“You are alone responsible for the quality of your life”.

Self Obsession: Be Alert!

What you will call a person who always cares about himself and least bothered about others.

Is he a mad?

No, it’s actually a psychology related problem. Such an individual is the one who can’t stop thinking about himself. These people believe themselves to be superior and for them, others have no value.

There are many reasons for the increasing cases of self obsession but the one and most important is our society. A bit of this quality is not harmful at all but when it crosses beyond a certain limit, it acquires a form of psychological disorder. Social and occupational reasons play a major role. If a person is not comfortable and content socially and professionally, he may be the victim. In other terms a single word which describes the above said point is “Insecurity”.

Such a person has no globe of world, their world lies only around themselves. They behave in a self centered manner. If they are in a relationship with a person they are never bothered of their partner. They only think about their happiness, which makes situation stressful. Again these relations are not secured due to their own fault. Nowadays, teenagers suffer a lot from this type of problem.

When do we hear and when do we listen?

Like always we are again stuck in between the conundrum of the written and the spoken .While we speak at home or informally it is for the sole purpose of communication. But formal speech does require a little caution. We ‘hear’ something even if we don’t want to. While we were walking we heard a group of kids shouting, it is not an intended gesture, rather it is an occurrence, whereas we listen when we want to . Listening is a conscious activity for e.g. I was listening (was involved voluntarily in the activity).

Face Challenges for a Better Life

Life constantly throws challenges from time to time. In fact, challenges make lives thrilling. What is life without challenges? Not everyone loves to tackle challenges though. Many are content with what they have and do not look beyond the mundane things. Even when, unexpectedly when some challenges come up, many look for ways to escape.

There are only two ways to deal with challenging situations in our. One is to face them and the other is to turn our face away from them. It is all up to us as to which path we choose. Facing challenges boldly makes one not only strong but also opens doors that we thought were closed.

Those who choose to find ways to escape from the challenging situations only end up making weak themselves. If we don’t try to find answers to something we are unsure of, then how will we evolve? Strangely enough, challenges have a knack of revealing our stronger side that even we are not aware of.

Facing challenges helps us look for alternatives and makes us strong in the end. It helps lead a better life too and grow over a period of time. Therefore, face challenges with grit.

Positive attitude, goals are necessary for a successful life

Positive attitude, goals are necessary for a successful life

Positive attitude makes a huge difference in your life

Life throws at us various challenging situations. Those who deal with strength, sail through it. Those who succumb to it fail and go through pain. More than the physical strength, it is the mental strength that matters. If one is mentally strong, one can deal with the blows of life. For mental strength, positive attitude or thinking is a must.

Every day is not the same. There are good and bad days in everybody’s life. One cannot expect a life according to one’s wishes. Time keeps changing and the cycle of bring both sorrows and happiness in varying proportions in everybody’s life. When things may go wrong unexpectedly, it is important to pick up oneself and face the situation.

Facing the given situation with a positive attitude makes a huge difference. It gives the strength to deal with the situation and also look for alternatives that can help emerge out of the situation. This holds true in both professional and personal life. Instead of fretting and fuming about the adverse situation, and thinking about negative things, one must focus on the situation with a positive outlook.

The way one handles the situation, either helps overcome or worsen the situation. Positive attitude gives strength and courage. So, it is all about maintaining a positive attitude.

Why goals are necessary for a successful life?

A goal reminds of the purpose in life and keeps one focused to work upon that. A life without goal is like a road without direction. Unless one knows what and where one wants to reach, one cannot lead a fulfilling life. A life without a goal is devoid of any ambition.

Having a purpose in life is extremely important. An aimless life is devoid of any direction and can be confusing and frustrating too. Having a goal brings a sense of direction to life. Many a times, one may fail to reach the goal which is perfectly fine. At least one would have tried reaching the goal and failed rather that not to have tried at all.

Success in life depends on what we make of our life. Goals add-on to that success. They are the ladder to the happiness. They also make one stronger by the day as they urge one to go beyond the set boundaries. We are often tied down by limitations and assume that certain things are not for us. Unless we try, how can we settle down for less?

Hence, having a goal helps bring out the true potential that even we are not aware of.

How to decide what to do in life?

Well friends that one’s a tough call. It’s alright that you’ve come to know much later that you were a child prodigy life’s never too short for dreaming big. But how do we know this is just what I have got to do in my life.

  • I think it all goes back to your early days. You are made a certain way and as you grow up your being is shaped according to what others provide you with. So if you are facing a dilemma do try looking back into your yearbook, or your card collection, may be your report cards, diary entries, the back of your notebooks(if you still have them)or meet your kindergarten teacher and I am sure there’s something that you’d know about yourself that you always knew but had forgotten.
  • You know it when you have a genuine flair for a thing, something which you are good at without putting an effort and if gods forbid you do put an effort you come out with wonders. No matter if it’s not very well paid or even recognized you can give some respect to your inbuilt talent, by giving it a try.
  • Do not underestimate your hobbies, this also goes for housewives who do painting and crafts during spare time. In this era of self employment anything can be turned into a job prospect. What else could be better than a job that also makes you enjoy.
  • Apart from the formal education that you have received, never cease the window of your desires, keep reading and expand your knowledge, there are things that you can be good at it’s just that you don’t know about them yet.
