4 Pro Tips For Setting Up A Great Hunting Expedition Camp

4 Pro Tips For Setting Up A Great Hunting Expedition Camp

Whether you are planning an expedition, hunting elk in the Rocky Mountains or white-tail deer in the wildlands of Virginia setting up camp is one important step that can not be overlooked. The relationship between having an ideal hunting camp and the success of a hunt can’t be underestimated. Setting up an ill-equipped and poorly organized hunting camp can exaggerate even minor inconveniences of being away from the comfort of your home.

Below are a few tips to help you set up a great hunting camp.

1. Choosing a site

*Safety should be your first consideration when choosing a site to set up your camp. The further away you are from civilization the higher the risk of something happening to you. Keep this in mind when choosing your site and take into consideration the animals that may live in the forest around you.

*Your site location should not be too close to game trails. This prevents the risk of having a wild animal wander into your site and also lessens the possibility of scaring away the exact thing you may be hunting.

*Avoid setting up under things that can fall at any moment. This includes dead tree branches or rocks.

*Consider terrain. You might set up camp under clear skies only to wake up in a flooded depression. Choose a location that is fairly level to avoid being in such a situation.

2. Proximity

Setting up a campsite for the fun of it is very different from setting up a hunting camp. When setting up a camp just for fun you will want to be near great scenery for great photos, this is just not a priority when setting up a hunting camp.

*You will need to be close to fresh water for drinking which is important for survival.

*Find an area that increases your chances of a successful hunt. You do not want to set up camp that is too close or too visible to where you plan on doing the actual hunt as this could spook the game out of the area.

*That being said, you also want to set up in an area that is close enough so that you can be in your hunting position without wasting too much time. Remember, if you do take something down, you will have to haul it back to camp.

3. Storage space

It is close to impossible to carry all your belongings every day when you go hunting. It is therefore vital that you have enough storage space for your extra gear as well as your food.

*First, you will need to separate the cooking area and the sleeping area. You should not take food into the sleeping area. This will reduce the risk of animals getting close to you when you are sleeping if they happen to wander into camp.

*Ensure all food and meat is hang in bags at least three meters from the ground and a few meters from the sleeping tents. Hang any game you gave scored off the ground and away from the camp area.

4. Keep the camp area clean

*The first thing you should consider is setting up a toilet. It should be away from the living area and away from the water source. If you plan to stay in the camp for long, dig a deep trench that can accommodate all human waste. When you leave the site make sure you bury all human waste.

*Do not leave your garbage lying around. Make sure you burn all your waste or carry it back home for proper disposal.

*Clean up your campsite and the area around it before you go. Leave it cleaner than when you got there. Keeping the forest around you clean ensures happy hunters, campers, and animals for years to come.

Now with these tips, you are ready to go on a whitetail hunt.

Adventures In Australian Outback: Importance Of Having A Plan

Adventures In Australian Outback: Importance Of Having A Plan

Alice Springs is a beautiful place in the remote part of Australia for anyone who wants to reconnect with nature and have a unique adventure. The weather is not for the faint of heart though. It can get really hot and dry, so dry that it can get difficult to speak. The nearest natural water source is at Ellery Creek Big Hole, which is about fifty kilometers away. And out in the Outback, one thing to keep in mind is there’s no mobile phone coverage.

The Beauty of the Australian Outback

Although certain luxuries in life that we are all used to having may not be present in this part of the world, there are so many things that the Outback has to offer. Take a good look around and you will find that this place is fascinating. The distinctive Australian red of the MacDonnell ranges serves as the backdrop to the town, making one feel that they’re inside a giant natural theater. The night sky is simply amazing. There is completely no artificial light or noise, and you will be able to witness the glorious spectacle of the Milky Way, in the same way as the aboriginal elders have done for centuries.

Various Stress-Busting Activities Await

When out in the Outback, it can be very tempting to do so many audacious stunts, such as trekking, diving, abseiling, jumping, and flying, which are all great stress busters and are also good physical activities. For some, the more daring the activity the higher the adrenalin rush, and the greater the stress relief.

Being Prepared with a Contingency Plan

However, when doing any of these activities, it is imperative that you have a contingency plan in place. This can be as basic as knowing exactly where you will be going and who you will be with, letting close family members or friends where you will be going and for how long, identifying the activities you will be having during your adventure and knowing the risks that go with these activities, and anticipating the worst thing that can happen and how to get help in case of an emergency.

For those going to the Outback, it is important to understand that the medical facilities and physiotherapy centers there are not as technologically advanced as the ones in the city. The doctors, nurses, and physiotherapists there are stretched and are doing the best they can with the available resources they have. Taking these into consideration, you may need to call on others for help when an emergency happens.

Bottom line is, it is always best to be prepared. Going out in the wild is exciting and lots of fun indeed, but it can also be very dangerous. It never hurts to do a little research before you dive into the Outback and take with you an emergency kit, a handy water bottle, and something to keep you warm in case you get trapped somewhere. Planning helps to ensure that you not only fully enjoy your nature trip, but that you also survive any dangers or risks in case something unexpected happens.

How To Save Money In A Manageable And Realistic Way

How To Save Money In A Manageable And Realistic Way

We could all do with finding that little bit of extra money to make life a little more comfortable couldn’t we? It might not seem possible sometimes, with the rising cost of foodstuff and household items and the never-ending uncertainty over the British economy in the wake of the Brexit result of last year and the current limbo of the economic climate. There are a few things you can do to help save money however, whether for a rainy day and an emergency fund, or for your own leisure purposes.

Arm Yourself with a Budget – The first thing is to plan thoroughly and accurately from pay packet to pay packet. Put together a list of all of your outgoings and incomings financially and put together a spreadsheet so you can see exactly where your money is going and what you get for that.

Save for Something – If you are saving just for the sake of it, it’s unlikely that the habit will stick. Set a realistic goal of how much you wish to set aside each month, and have a reason in mind to entice you to do so as habit. This could be to pay off a specific debt or to save for a holiday.

Cook Meals at Home – Cut down the eating out, whether at lunchtime when you can make your own lunch and take it to work, and of an evening time (of course you should allow yourself some treats from time to time). Cooking at home will drastically cut down your spending.

Take up Walking – Whether you have your own car or use public transport, by walking whenever possible you are cutting down on your travel costs severely. This will also add to your overall health.

Be Smart with Purchases – For certain items it makes sense to buy in bulk to get a discount and save money, but for other items it is smart to pay that little bit more now for an item that will last much longer, and work more effectively as a result.

Don’t be Impulsive – Whether you are browsing an online store or a physical retail shop, if you have seen something that you like and want to buy, give yourself a time out. That way you can take a step back and think about whether the item is something you actually need or really want to buy.

Look for Free Events – During evenings and weekends it is nice to spend time with friends and family out and about. It doesn’t always have to be for drinks, a meal, or to a ticketed event. Keep an eye on your local area for free events, or locations where you can go and enjoy nature for free.

Be Careful with Borrowing – Live within your means wherever possible and if you do need to borrow money only do so after thorough research, using responsible lenders to ensure you can pay back within the agreed repayment timeframe.

It is possible to save money without living like a hermit, it just requires some patience and careful planning.
