This article will review the different items you should check before turning on your AC and how to turn on the system properly.
Pre-Start Checklist

-
Make sure the thermostat is up-to-date and working.
-
Examine your home for any exposed ductwork and make sure there is no cracks or wear-and tear. If there is, it could lower the efficiency of the system, raise energy prices, and fail to cool your home properly.
-
Make sure there is nothing (drapes, furniture, decor, etc.) blocking any of the air vents throughout your home.
-
Check the AC drain line to make sure it isn’t clogged.
-
Check the air filter and change it out if it is soiled or dirty.
Turning Your AC On
Once you have gone through each item in the checklist above, you are ready to crank up your AC and enjoy a cool, comfortable home.
Step 1: Locate the thermostat and lower the temperature to your desired level.
Step 2: Turn the system to the “ON” setting (some units may have a “COOL” or “AUTO” setting).
Step 3: Locate the outside unit and listen for the fan and condenser running. There should be warm air emitted from the top of the outside unit.
Step 4: Wait for about 15-20 minutes for your air conditioning system to run throughout the whole home and cool down the internal environment.
